Eco Village
Metropolitan Farmers
An Eco-friendly Village emphasizing the Eco Concept with sustainable food production and clean energy usage, based on natural farming principles and the 9-step approach towards the philosophy of sufficiency economy.
In an era where the world is focused on sustainable development goals (SDGs) amidst the climate crisis, global warming, and its impact on biodiversity and food security, many countries are concerned. Adapting to coexist with nature through the philosophy of sufficiency economy has been applied in many communities, leading to the establishment of learning centers and model areas aimed at achieving self-sufficiency without depleting resources.
The Mab Ueang Agri-Nature Center, under the Agri-Nature Foundation, was founded by ‘Ajarn Yak’ Wiwat Salyakamthorn, a former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and President of the World Soil Association. This learning center offers opportunities for individuals to enhance their skills, knowledge, and experience in self-reliance, based on the four principles of sufficiency: enough to eat, enough to live, enough to use, and enough to sustain. Currently, the network spans over 50 provinces nationwide.
Eco Village is part of the 'Arsa Chaonamahanakorn, Nong Chok' project, spanning over 133 rai (approximately 53 acres) in Nong Chok, Bangkok. Export business entrepreneur Varakiat Sujiwarodom purchased this land to pursue agriculture following the royal initiatives of King Rama IX. Additionally, there is another 140 rai (approximately 55 acres) across Khlong 14 that will be developed into a learning center. Currently, it is registered under the name Arsa Chaonamahanakorn Co., Ltd.
Sufficiency community
In Eco Village, Metropolitan farmers have established water and soil management systems, forests, food sources for security, and a solar-powered electricity network to support agricultural irrigation. This initiative serves as an educational space that follows ancient practices harmoniously in tune with nature.
The Eco Village community welcomes individuals who share similar beliefs, have a passion for faith, and are interested in collaborative investments. Beginning with 30 households, the community assists in constructing homes, cultivating forests, securing water sources, improving soil quality, and promoting food production. It is essential to design homes that do not obstruct floodwaters and offer basic educational courses. Simplifying academic lauguages into local languages is encouraged. The approach focuses on practical skills over rote theory, with a balance of 20-30% theory content.
